school trips

We try to arrange regular educational trips to correspond with the topic areas covered by each class. Here at the International School of Venice we are fortunate to be situated in an excellent location, which allows for varied and interesting school outings.
The area around, and including, Venice is rich in history - from the prehistoric 'Paleo-Veneto' people, through the arrival of the 'Romans', medieval walled cities, the huge influence of Venice itself, 'La Serenissima' and her great empire to the events of The Second World War - there are a wealth of opportunities nearby which allow our children to witness history, first hand.
Also, from the Dolomite Mountains to the famous Lagoon, we have at our disposal an area of much varied landscape and wildlife, including a nearby wildlife park which allows a 'close-up and hands-on' experience for the children. Other trips include the local theatres and into industry (as part of the school's environmental awareness programme).

School trips are organised for each class and each class teacher chooses trips relevant to curriculum study areas and class 'topics'. Educational trips usually take place within school-time, with pupils leaving after registration and returning before 16.00.
Trips of more than one day are possible however, such as the "England Trip" for the older children of the Primary School which we propose each year.

sports
During the year we propose a range of sporting activities for the children such as swimming lessons in a local pool for the younger children. The school is in contact with various sporting associations, including riding stables and canoe and tennis clubs who offer out of school hours activities. The older children of the Primary School are given the experience of regular physical education lessons in a local sports hall.

group activities

During the year there are group activities in which all classes take part:

The Christmas Show
This show is designed to be a multidisciplinary event, a great chance to involve certain aspects of the curriculum and also to come together for a whole school celebration for pupils, teachers and parents.

Book Week
'Book Week' is a whole week dedicated to books and the enjoyment of reading. During this week the children are engaged in creative activities aimed at the development of the love of reading. They are provided with the opportunity to meet, at school and in other locations if possible, authors, illustrators and people involved in the world of publishing.

International/European Week
This week is aimed at promoting an awareness of the world around them, the children are encouraged to explore and enjoy the diverse cultures we have within the school.

Sports Day and End of Year Celebration
At the end of the summer term we have Sports Day. A morning of fun and games which allows the children to demonstrate the skills they have developed in their physical education lessons. The Sports Morning is followed by a small party which allows the children, staff and parents to socialise.

With voluntary groups from the Civil Protection Services a programme of evacuation and safety drill procedures has been formulated and educational courses planned for the children. Themes include aspects of general safety and personal safety, and in collaboration with the ASL 12 Agency and the 'Comune di Venezia' a series of workshops based around the theme of personal hygiene and psycho-social wellbeing have been arranged.

extra curricular activities

Children from Year One onwards have the opportunity to partake in dance lessons after school. Courses will give the children the opportunity to take, at various levels, "Royal Academy of Dance" exams. There will also be the opportunity for children to have lessons, after school, in various musical instruments. There will also be the possibility to begin the study of a third language with qualified, mother-tongued teachers; and, for the younger children to attend creative-educational workshops between 16:15 - 17:30.
